My favourite songs – tag post

First off, thanks to Himank for tagging me ( See, I have marketed your blog now ). Earlier – by which I mean when I was in school, I would listen to only movie music be it hindi or telugu. College introduced me to a lot of international music and I am glad that I have so many more options to listen to. Here’s my list and the reason why I picked them –

1. Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) – Kickass song. Just incredibly composed and great fun to listen to.

2. Kal Ho Na Ho (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy + Sonu Nigam + Javed Akhtar) – Its a dream combination,no? (hehe I sound like Nadal in his interviews ). I get really emotional whenever I hear this song. Its a beautiful beautiful song.

3. If I Fell In Love With You(Beatles) – I love the simplicity yet strength of Beatles’ music. This song in particular has really honest lyrics and I could listen to it any number of times.

4. I Can’t Get No..Satisfaction ( Rolling Stones) – I have not heard many songs of RS but got to know of this song through some source and thank God for that because it’s a unique song and was definetely pathbreaking in more ways than one. Its very peppy and young.

5. Aanewaala Pal (Kishore Kumar + R.D Burman) – Heard this song in our car courtesy my mum’s obsession with old classics. I cannot analyze the song much but to me its one the best Kishore songs ever.

6. Black Or White (Michael Jackson) – This song had to be on the list for its universality of theme and the awesome music video. MJ really brought together people through his music. I know Thriller is also a great song but for me this song is definetely more enteraining.

7. Cry Me A River (Justin Timberlake/Timbaland) – Huge Justin fan and he is a supremely gifted artist. This song talks about breakup but it is not sappy which is a great thing. Lovely writing complemented with some heartfelt singing.

8. Hey,Jude (Beatles) – One of the most recognized Beatles song and one should listen to it to understand how brilliant a song it is.

9. Fallin (Alicia Keys) – Simply superb song.

10. Waiting on the World To Change(John Mayer) – Extremely well written with a very simple tune but hard hitting meaning behind it. John Mayer is God!!

11. Ray Of Light and Hung Up (Madonna) – An evergeen artist and both these songs are very catchy. The former showcases her versatality while the latter is foot-tapping and makes you stand up and dance.

Have loads of other songs as well especially some by AR Rahman but do not know which one to put. Loved all his songs from Roja,Dil Se and RDB. Also,
- Single Ladies and Crazy in Love by Beyonce,
- Lose youself and Stan by Eminem
- Mad World by Gary Jules ( loved the song after listening to Adam Lambert on AI )

5 women I would date!

Picked up this tag from an interesting blog. The tag is about 5 women you would date if you were a guy. Pardon my choice of images . So here’s my list

1. Julia Roberts – She is intelligent,charming,really funny and of course, the original pretty woman.

2. Rachel Mcadams – A huge fan of hers and think that she is superemely talented,beautiful and dignified.

3. Kareena Kapoor – Unlike a majority of people, I think she is extremely beautiful and has a very international look. Love her sense of fashion,outspoken nature and honesty. Did I mention she wears the most awesome shoes .

4. Jennifer Aniston – She is someone who looks like the friendly next door neighbour – the one who is an extremely talented individual and dated one of the hottest guys on the planet! Her interviews are very entertaining and funky and she comes across as a very warm person. Also, has the most lovely hair!

5. Natalie Portman – Ok, now most guys would have her on their list. She is intelligent,articulate and one of those rare breed of young actresses who is mature enough to take their career and life seriously and not indulge the paparazzi.

12 things no one knows about me

Well, after this post people will know. This exercise is neither pointless nor easy. I don’t want to sound like a wannabe beauty paegant contestant but the biggest challenge in life is discovering yourself! It was pretty tough to narrow down things I had never admitted to,on a public platform. I know ,a majority of you must be going ‘cut the crap and let out your secrets’ . So here is the list

1. I have always secretly wanted to be a superhero who kicks evil butt. That should explain my obsession with powerpuff girls.

2. I have an obsession with ear buds. Sounds pretty weird..doesn’t it. I can see a devilish smile on few faces (note-Tarun ).

3. During some conversations I consciously underestimate myself so that some one will actually say “no, you are really good at …..”. Its good to get compliments. Why do I try so hard.. well, thats because some people are too stingy with compliments .

4. Having said what I said in the above point, I have to confess that I don’t know how to receive a compliment. I have no clue how to react when someone says nice things about you in a flattering manner. I could always say ‘Thank You’ but then that is so predictable and boring.

5. I am obsessed about my weight. People really close to me know this fact but for the benefit of others I would like to include it nevertheless. At one point I checked my weight thrice a day and went on a crazy crash diet too. Never ever will I do that again. Its important to be healthy and fit.

6. I am fiercely protective about people I love – to the point of ignoring their faults. Typical scorpion trait and I have been warned many times to be less vocal about my feelings but that is just who I am. Will go to any extent for my family and closest pals.

7. I walk on my heels in front of the mirror wishing I was taller. I always wanted to be atleast 5′6 but nature had other plans. Unfortunately, heels make me uncomfortable so I am resigned to my fate of being an underachiever (atleast in terms of height).

8. I like getting into fights. I know I belong to the land where Gandhi lived, but I like guys who can throw a punch and knock someone down. I am not propogating violence but one harmless punch wont cause a war right??

9. I am very low maintenance. Many people , especially my college mates have told me that I give an impression of someone who has lot of attitude etc. I do not know what exactly they mean by ‘attitude’ but I honestly have never considered myself above anyone or anything. I am a very insecure person (oops should have reserved that for the next point ) so to think I am proud or haughty is so not true. I love eating roadside pani-puri than going to a coffee house.

10. I had the longest of crushes on my ‘khaas friend’ before he became my ‘khaas friend’. He is not only my best friend but also the most well-behaved,creative and caring people I know. I did not know much about his existence till the 6th sem but am glad I broadened my horizons.

11. I use Johnson baby soap and hair oil even today!

12. Although I love chocolates, I have not had a chocolate bar in more than 4 months. Well you gotta do what you gotta do.

The magic lamp – tag post

This post goes to show how self contradictory I am.I had planned on taking a hiatus from blogosphere but this seems like a nice topic so thought of posting it before going home.

My 5 wishes would be

1. Would like to become a multi-billionare so that wouldnt have to think twice before buying anything.Money is power and yeah would shop till I drop.

2. Johnny Depp from POC(he was super hot in that Jack Sparrow character) , Justin Timberlake , Ed Norton , Steven Gerrard (though hes all hooked and booked – Genie has superpowers rght??) , Andy Roddick,Kaka at my beck and call!!!(dont read much into it)

3. Good health through and through for my family because irrespective of whatever one has if you are not fit nothing else fits.

4. I always wish I was taller by atleast 2 inches.So probably would do that.

5. Even on eating tons and tons of food I shouldnt put on weight.Oh how much I wish this became a reality because I have such lazy bones that I cant bring myself to exercise.

Btw Alladin rocks.Though the craze wears out cartoons are awesome.Nothing better to make a day.

I take immense pride in being a part of the blogging community of UG2K5 – which to my knowledge is the most active in the campus.I was tagged and guess its time to spill the beans , my take on my contemporaries.

1.Karan Maroo – He has an insatiable appetite for posts.Regular and real is the best way to describe his extremely popular blog.I have read all his posts and hes very genuine in most of them.Though of late his posts are more like newspaper articles(no offence – newspaper articles are good too!) and I think he can be a more prolific writer by taking on topics unlike current affairs – ones with more literary content.Also, he has great command over the language and amazing voabulary.Keep up the good work!!

2.Himank – I started reading his posts a long time after he had started writing.His hits show that he is a hit with everyone(my puns are all unintented).He is honest and candid about his experiences which make his posts a nice read.He can definetely improve his language but his dedication and sincerity toward blogosphere are an inspiration for lazy bones like me.Your posts rock!!

3.Pankaj – His vocabulary goes whoosh above my head sometimes.His passion is reflected in his posts.He should blog more often because he is a huge talent.

4. Deepti – A fellow blogger whom I admire a lot because she has a strong sense about whatever she writes.She beleives in it and thats why you can feel the emotions while reading her posts.Agree with Karan that she can be a lil less personal because this aint the right platform to convey such things.

5. Anupama – Her sense of humuor is among the best.I wish she blogged more often and posted comments more often too.

6.Prateek – He is one of my favourite bloggers because he has a unique style and his topics have great range and depth.Wonder where he gets such diverse topics to blog on.Let the cat out of the bag dude…. [:)].

I guess thats about it.Dont read a lot of other blogs but should start doing it because thats the best way to improve one’s language.UG2k5 bloggers rock!!

A living person I would like to meet – Oprah Winfrey because shes such an inspiration for every person who wants to do good.Its not her success but the struggle that is so impressive.Being a black American she has done outstanding work in the fields of journalism and social service for 30 years now.Also shes a woman of great innate strength.

2.A dead person I would like to meet – Audrey Hepburn – an amazing actress,a stunning beauty and such an achiever.A person who used her social status for the benefit of the society and did everything with immense grace and elan.

3.An event in the history I would like to change – Well,I would say Ashton Kutcher’s wedding or perhaps India’s World Cup performance last time .Kidding – on a more serious note the Cold War between USA and Soviet Union because it led to such a mad race for developing nuclear enery (for all the wrong reasons) and in more ways than one has affected foreign policies of all nations in the world.The world would be a better place had it not been for the massive egos of the leaders of these two nations.

4. An event in the history I would like to witness – Hoisting of the Indian tricolour for the first time.Must have been such an incredible moment.

5. A movie I would like to witness without being a part of – I dont understand the meaning of this question.

6. A literary character I would like to meet – Definetely Sherlock Holmes.

Life In A Day!!

Preposterous thought aint it?Well,its an open secret that life is so unpredictable and you never know whats going to happen in the blink of an eye.Then again that is what makes life so much fun too.There is always an element of surprise,something always to look forward to,a strange feeling in the heart and no wonder we all love living.May sound very pessimistic of me but say God sent his messenger to you one fine(well not so fine)night and made a startling revelation that you were to die in the next 24 hours.So you are left with just 1 day – 1 damn day to do all the things that you would have ever wanted to do.I bet none of us would have slept with something like that in mind.To make matters more complicated you have to live with the fact that you know that you are dying,you dont want your parents to know that and you are contemplating all the possibilities of how your death occurs.Phew…

Suddenly,you decide to make a list of all that you want to do in the next(oops last) 24 hours.Know what I and my very good friend tried doing this and both of us were at our wit’s end.Apart from certain obvious things like spending time with family,getting in touch with friends,eating your favourite delicacies etc etc we really could not come up with anything special or worthwile.We may have several ambitions and desires but to convert them into reality in just 24 hours is a Herculean task.

This post was just meant to invoke a thought.Take a pen and paper and jot down all that you would like doing before dying.All those who comment it would be fun if you could share your wishlist.Keep thinking and Good luck!!!
